Porec was equally important to both the Western and Eastern Roman Empires, hides 2.000-year-old stone roman roads (Decumanus and Cardomaximus) as well as one of the rare examples of early Christian basilicas on the Mediterranean, the Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO protected monument. Town offers a wonderful mixture of two cultures.

The history of Venice also runs through Porec. It was the first conquered istrian town by them. There are original gothic houses that they built and still stand today.
